Earth Celebrations

Earth Celebrations was founded in 1991 by Felicia Young, as a not-for-profit 501c3 organization in New York City, dedicated to fostering ecological awareness and reviving the arts at the center of community life. Earth Celebrations innovative environmental and arts programs include: theatrical pageants, exhibitions, performances, art & ecology/puppet & costume workshops,internships, artist residencies, and web-site: http//www.earthcelebrations.com, and partnerships with schools, community centers, and gardens, For 15 years Earth Celebrations produced the popular Rites of Spring:Garden Pageant and Winter Pageant on the Lower East Side, which engaged over 5,000 participants annually, and led to the preservation of many of the community gardens on the Lower East Side and throughout New York City.

Earth Celebrations responds to the growing need to reconnect art with our lives, community, and the social responsibility we all share for the preservation of a natural and ecologically balanced world. Art does not only have to reflect life, but can effect it too, by inspiring imagination and bringing people together to address crucial issues. Right here in New York City, where we may often feel disconnected from the natural world, we are also part of a unique ecosystem, one where we can curb our production of waste, pollution, and environmental destruction, as well as restore the ecological balance in our city. Earth Celebrations innovative and creative programs engage people to celebrate the natural world, cultivate culturally diverse arts and traditions, address crucial issues, document and perform local history, and revive the arts at the center of community life.
